Geometry Scavenger Hunt and Abstract Drawing

We just finished our geometry unit.  Instead of a paper and pencil assessment, students had two opportunities to show me what they know.  We went on a geometry scavenger hunt to find twelve required vocabulary terms and two student chosen vocabulary terms.  Students used their iPads on the scavenger hunt to take pictures of real-life examples of their vocabulary words.  Next, students drew an abstract design incorporating all thirty-nine of our geometry vocabulary words.  After they used their checklist to make sure they had at least one example of each vocabulary word, they switched their drawing and checklist with another student and located an example of each vocabulary word on their friend’s drawing.  They then used their colored pencils to shade, from light to dark, each shape on their drawings.
